We need to be able to forgive ourselves when we stumble or forget, and based on that forgiveness, be able to reconnect to our basic intention. One of the primary tools we have in spiritual life is the understanding that everything is changing all of the time, that nothing is fixed, and nothing is permanent. Because of that truth, when we make a mistake we realize that we can begin again. ~ Sharon Salzberg (from "The Force of Kindness")

Whosoever wishes to know about the world must learn about it in its particular details:
Knowledge is not intelligence.
In searching for the truth be ready for the unexpected.
Change alone is unchanging.
The same road goes both up and down.
The beginning of a circle is also its end.
Not I, but the world says it: all is one.
And yet everything comes in season.
~ Heraklietos of Ephesos

My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world. ~ Jack Layton

His Holiness The Dalai Lama's Good Karma Instructions for Life
Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risks.
When you loose, don't loose the lesson.
Follow the three R's:
respect for self
respect for others
responsibility for all your actions
Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
Don't let a little dispute injure a great relationship.
When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
Spend some time alone every day.
Open arms to change, but don't let go of your values.
Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time.
A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.
Share your knowledge. Its a way to achieve immortality.
Be gentle with the earth.
Once a year, go somewhere you've never been.
Remember that the best relationship is the one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
Judge your successes by what you had to give up in order to get it.
Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

Bebop was about change, about evolution. If anybody wants to keep creating they have to be about change. ~ Miles Davis

What you're supposed to do when you don't like a thing is change it. If you can't change it, change the way you think about it. Don't complain. ~ Maya Angelou (from "Wouldn't Take Nothing For My Journey Now")
